Collection mechanics
To understand the "Damage Control" collection more fully, it’s essential to look at the mechanics behind the burn process that is integral to acquiring these pieces. XCOPY has created a dynamic interaction with the collectors by introducing a burn mechanism tied to the existing Max Pain collection. Collectors must burn specific quantities of Max Pain pieces to mint a new work from the Damage Control collection. This deflationary dynamic creates scarcity and adds an additional layer of engagement for collectors, driving both participation and interest in the collection.
Burn Mechanics of the "Damage Control" Collection
The burn mechanism involves burning a predetermined number of Max Pain pieces or existing Damage Control pieces to receive a new artwork from the Damage Control collection.
Each piece in the Damage Control collection has a maximum supply that will be capped once the burn concludes in December 2024.
The rarity and future valuation of each piece are influenced by how many are ultimately minted and how many Max Pain pieces are burned to acquire them.
Here’s an overview of the maximum possible supply for each artwork in the "Damage Control" collection:

Explanation of Burn Requirements:
CHURN requires burning 2 Max Pain pieces, making it relatively more costly to acquire. With a maximum supply of 250, its limited quantity combined with the higher burn cost adds to its potential rarity.
CRAWLER and XOMBO each require burning 1 Max Pain piece. However, CRAWLER has a larger max supply cap at 500 compared to XOMBO's 500, making XOMBO potentially more sought after due to its lower initial count.
SH_MASH_MA is unique in that it requires the burning of both 1 existing Damage Control piece and 1 Max Pain piece, adding an additional layer of strategy for collectors who already possess pieces from the collection.
OBLIVION, SIDEWAYZ, and BANG BANG have all reached their capped supply, meaning no further burns are possible. Their supply is fixed, and their rarity is now a permanent aspect of their valuation within the collection.
Impact of Burn Mechanics:
The burn mechanism adds a gamified element to collecting, where participants must make strategic decisions about which pieces to sacrifice and which to acquire. This not only deflates the overall supply of the Max Pain collection but also directly impacts the scarcity and perceived value of the Damage Control pieces. Collectors are incentivised to engage actively, monitoring supply levels and burn progress to maximise their collections' value and rarity.
As the burn concludes, the scarcity of each piece will likely become more pronounced, potentially driving up the floor prices for both the Damage Control and the Max Pain collections. This scarcity is a key component of the collection’s dynamics, ensuring continued interest and engagement from the collector community.
By integrating these mechanics, XCOPY has transformed the act of collecting from a passive experience into an interactive challenge, reflecting the unpredictable and ever-evolving nature of the digital age itself.
